Rosette Needle Book

I was so excited when I finally got my hexa go-go book at the end of August. I have to say I love almost all the projects in this beautiful book by Tasha Bruecher. I am wanting to make the quilt on the cover. It is so beautiful. She does an awesome job on teaching you different methods and how to do the paper piecing. I am glad I bought this book it is a perfect addition to my craft book library!

Since I am new to paper piecing I decided to start off small and make the needle book. Since the hexagons are only 1/2 inch in each side I was only needing 1 1/2 inch squares which means I was able to use some of the little scraps of my beloved Lila Tueller Santorini. The binding was fabric I bought when I was a teenager, lol. The instructions were straight forward and easy to follow. I like that there is a pocket in the inside if you need to travel with some thread and teeny scissors. The only thing I changed was I did a hand crochet loop for the button loop in gold. I love the vintage button I found in the button box too :) I can’t wait to find the perfect fabrics to embark on my hexy quilt. Trust me if you buy this book you will love it!

Forgotten Birthday Post

I forgot to post all of the pinterest pins I made for Scott’s birthday at the end of July. I know it is late but it is better than never. We made way too many sweets but that is what my husband likes. Plus he was turning 30 and needed to be spoiled!

I made him a chocolate chip cookie birthday cake found on the Something Shiny blog. This cake was super yummy! Just make sure you make it before you need it allowing time for the frosting to set.

 

We made chocolate chip cookie dough truffles found on the Bakerella website. I personally liked the cookie dough from this recipe better than the cookie dough for the cake filling. This were yummy but very rich for me.

This recipe was not from pinterest but I saw the idea of putting crushed Oreos in chocolate cookies from somewhere, lol. I used my go to chocolate cookie recipe found on Allrecipes I just substituted one cup of chocolate chips for crushed Oreos. This were pretty yummy but I do not think I will make them with Oreos again.

Next my lovely sister in law made my last pinterest were these Oreo stuffed chocolate chip cookies. These are found on the amandeleine website. These were to die for but almost too much for one cookie because they were massive!

     

This is what happens when you don’t have time to let the icing set and we were at a warm park. the cake started shifting! Good thing it still tasted yummy!

Friendship Quilt Blog Hop

When I came across the friendship quilt blog hop I was excited. I had never really followed a blog hop or made a project for one but I thought I could do this. I wanted to make a project for both of my best friends because they both are special to me and could use a pick me up but unfortunately I was only able to get one of my projects done since my dear Grandma passed away.

I made this pouch for Rebekah. She is in the middle one in the picture. Her favourite color is pink and mine is green so it kind of was a good mixture of the two of us. I recently got the Hexa go go book so I have been experimenting with hexagons. I went and found some pink and greens in my scraps. I made 35 1/2 inch hexagons and sewed them in a pink/green friendship bracelet pattern. I used the noodle head pouch tutorial but only sewed the corners at 2.5 inches.

 

I love how it turned out and I am pretty sure she will love it too! It will be her birthday present since her b-day is coming up soon. Through thick and thin we will always be friends :)

A little pattern drafting

Lorelei had a birthday party to go to a few weeks ago. Miss L decided her friend wanted an apron and her friends Mom said that would be a great idea. We picked out some fabrics and then set to work. I was getting bored of the same old pattern I was using for little children aprons so I decided to make one up. Cut a pocket, a few straps and a ruffle...

Wild flower Pincushion

I have a little catch up to do. I haven’t blogged for a while but I have still been busy making projects. I want to share my pincushion first! I haven’t ever had a pincushion and found I would drop pins on the table and then onto the floor. I just had enough and planned a lets sew pincushions while our kids play date with a friend. I had a pattern already one I had actually printed out three and a half years prior, (that is kinda sad).

So here it is:

I threw in some things in this picture so you can get a grasp on how huge this pin cushion is! It is massive and awesome! I love it and don’t know what I did without it! Just a side note I filled it with crushed walnut shells and a little bit of polyfil at the bottom where that hand stitching is.

Retro Flower Block

Excuse my  pictures I forgot to take some pictures with a real camera before this left my house!

I was very very excited to purchase the retro flower quilt pattern. I really want to make a big quilt someday. Before that happens I just made a pillow slip for my sister in law for her birthday. I used scraps from the multiple red and black aprons I have made.

I have to say I had some issues with my seams matching. I am really debating on whether or not I want to purchase the curve master presser foot. Although I think part of my issues came from the fact the grey fabric I used was not quilt weight so it stretch a bit while I sewed. I will try again.

I hand quilted the top around the petals. I am happy with how it turned out and it is loved by my sis in law.

Toy Leash…

I wish I had one of these when I had little a little baby who threw things from highchairs at restaurants, from their carseat, from anywhere really. I think that this will be my go to baby shower gift for a while. I followed this tutorial from Moda bakeshop, well kind of. I did not sew the fabric on the batting and then fold it over and sewed it closed. I did not like the seaming that way. So I just pressed the fabric over the batting down then folded the other side over top then pinned it into place. That way you only have one seam in the middle instead of two seams fighting with each other! I also got to practice some straight line quilting! Oh and of course it matches this little ones tumbler quilt!
