Swap

So I joined my first swap on Flickr it is called the Modern Scrappy Bits Swap. I am super excited about it. I get to make someone a pouch, needle book or fabric basket. I hope that I have enough scraps if what my partner will like since my collection isn’t huge. I have been practicing my pouch skills zippered and non zippered. Made a boxy pouch the other day! I will show you guys once I make the matching needle book and take a picture. It is a project for my Pay it Forward challenge I posted on facebook.

I am excited for the challenge and the opportunity to make someone's day! (hopefully) Lol. I had fun making my mosaic!

Baby Doll Butterfly Quilt

First Christmas present done! So many to still complete.

I made this darling little quilt for my youngest daughter for her new dolly that is arriving this Christmas. I used the butterfly tutorial from Bee in my Bonnet row along quilt. And decided to make it scrappy. Luckily I was able to go through some scraps of a friend to make it since my scrap variety is not too high due to me being fairly new to the quilting world! I used some Kona Sky for sashing which I cut at 2 inches. And decided to quilt randomly, trying something new on a small project. I pulled out some masking tape to use as a guide and just kept on sewing until I thought it was done. I quilted it in a variegated rainbow thread.

This quilt ended up being approx. a 22 inch square.

Now here is to hoping she will like it and use it. Fingers crossed!

Rosette Needle Book

I was so excited when I finally got my hexa go-go book at the end of August. I have to say I love almost all the projects in this beautiful book by Tasha Bruecher. I am wanting to make the quilt on the cover. It is so beautiful. She does an awesome job on teaching you different methods and how to do the paper piecing. I am glad I bought this book it is a perfect addition to my craft book library!

Since I am new to paper piecing I decided to start off small and make the needle book. Since the hexagons are only 1/2 inch in each side I was only needing 1 1/2 inch squares which means I was able to use some of the little scraps of my beloved Lila Tueller Santorini. The binding was fabric I bought when I was a teenager, lol. The instructions were straight forward and easy to follow. I like that there is a pocket in the inside if you need to travel with some thread and teeny scissors. The only thing I changed was I did a hand crochet loop for the button loop in gold. I love the vintage button I found in the button box too :) I can’t wait to find the perfect fabrics to embark on my hexy quilt. Trust me if you buy this book you will love it!

Friendship Quilt Blog Hop

When I came across the friendship quilt blog hop I was excited. I had never really followed a blog hop or made a project for one but I thought I could do this. I wanted to make a project for both of my best friends because they both are special to me and could use a pick me up but unfortunately I was only able to get one of my projects done since my dear Grandma passed away.

I made this pouch for Rebekah. She is in the middle one in the picture. Her favourite color is pink and mine is green so it kind of was a good mixture of the two of us. I recently got the Hexa go go book so I have been experimenting with hexagons. I went and found some pink and greens in my scraps. I made 35 1/2 inch hexagons and sewed them in a pink/green friendship bracelet pattern. I used the noodle head pouch tutorial but only sewed the corners at 2.5 inches.

 

I love how it turned out and I am pretty sure she will love it too! It will be her birthday present since her b-day is coming up soon. Through thick and thin we will always be friends :)

Retro Flower Block

Excuse my  pictures I forgot to take some pictures with a real camera before this left my house!

I was very very excited to purchase the retro flower quilt pattern. I really want to make a big quilt someday. Before that happens I just made a pillow slip for my sister in law for her birthday. I used scraps from the multiple red and black aprons I have made.

I have to say I had some issues with my seams matching. I am really debating on whether or not I want to purchase the curve master presser foot. Although I think part of my issues came from the fact the grey fabric I used was not quilt weight so it stretch a bit while I sewed. I will try again.

I hand quilted the top around the petals. I am happy with how it turned out and it is loved by my sis in law.
