Flying Geese for Laura!

Secret project finally revealed!!! It is so hard to keep a secret…

My brain went crazy trying to figure out in what direction I was going for Laura’s sewing machine cover. I changed my mind a few times and then dove in! I decided to make some flying geese. I hadn’t made them before so I went with the paper foundation technique to make sure there were perfect points!

I first made these strip pieces pulling as many fabrics I had that were favorites. Some Denyse Schmidt, Lizzy House, Anna Maria Horner, Joel Dewberry (Okay maybe that is one of mine) Architextures, and more.

I then printed out this template to make the front or back well one side of the cover. I paired it with Robert Kaufman Linen in Putty. It took some time to do but was totally worth the effort! If you have this on your list you should try this pattern out. I think it would be awesome as a pillow!

I decided make a box on the other side. I printed out this template but shrunk it down some. This was a little trickier than I had expected but it is so good to learn new things. I also decided to not do all the geese in the strips but add one in each direction.

(pardon the bubbly bottoms my machine is a little short…)

The little left overs became a border. I ordered a new Denyse Schmidt Florence print for the binding. I wanted to go with something a little darker. I even snuck in a fussy cut from Memoirs of  “little” since Laura’s blog is called little and lots.  I thought it was kinda perfect!

Thank you so much for swapping with me Laura, it was so lovely making something for such a talented lady! I hope this makes your “sewing space” a little happier.

Sewing machine cover made for me by Laura!

Yesterday I received the quickest package ever. Usually it takes about 2 weeks for mail to arrive from the states. This beauty was mailed on Friday and arrived the following Wednesday! Crazy fast! I have to say I was beyond thrilled when I opened this package from Laura at littleandlots to find this gorgeous cover. You can read about her process here. (She even sent me some goodies too! I love those strawberries)

She used my most favorite pattern in Pillow Pop, Garden District. There are lovely fabrics in there like beautiful Liberty prints, AMH prints, DS prints (that I wish I had bought) and so many more. I am in awe! It is so beautiful.

A while back I asked Laura if she wanted to do a sewing machine cover swap with me. (I had wanted to join the sewing room swap on Flickr but with moving and such the timing just wasn’t good.) Luckily Laura said yes! We agreed upon being done at the end of September she was quicker than me so hers is still a work in progress.

The back is super awesome too!!! I am so glad to get some COLOR in my sewing room!!!! Thank you sooooooo much! I think I could go on and on about how pretty this is. It is okay to be jealous, lol.

Laura was also sweet and did some personal shopping for me. (We don’t have a Joanns up in Canada) I really needed (like we need fabric…lol) this print by Juliana Horner to make some long awaited placemats. It is lovely!

Thanks Laura for being my blog/quilting friend! You are amazing! A true inspiration!

All dressed up!

I have two projects to share with you that I finished up this week!

First off are a couple American girl dresses:

Look at that cute little bow in the back!

And the purple one has all that gathery goodness!

I don’t have a 18” doll in my house yet so I could not model them on anything but I am sure they will be awesome since I bought the patterns off of the Liberty Jane pattern site. You can find the pattern for the gathered dandelion dress here. You can find the pattern for the brown flower dress here. They were fun to make and Lorelei has requested some of her own. One day maybe!

Secondly I am sooo excited to show you what I did with some of my left over pieces of Simply Color. I made a few Anna Maria Horner feathers and put together a sewing machine cover for a friend for her birthday! If you haven’t seen this quilt top you must see it. Check out the pattern here.

If you are curious the ties were cut out at 10” by 1 1/4” then pressed in half and folded in. I placed them about 4” up from the bottom. Other than that I just made three feathers and squared them off and added a little extra fabric to make it long enough.

Hope everyone is getting all there Christmas projects done! I know I still have a few more to make and finish up. Good luck and Happy Sewing!
