Miss Elena’s Quilt

Well it is finally done! I was able to quilt and bind Elena’s quilt this weekend. She already seems to know that it is hers. She loves to be wrapped in it and play peek a boo. It is far from perfect but it was my first quilt that I machine quilted in a larger size with blocks! Next time I would do a few things differently but it is a learning process right?!?! It was kind of windy when we went outside to take a picture so the front is a little wonky (I didn’t sew that crazy!). The pattern is called a disappearing nine patch. You can find a tutorial here. I made 24 nine patch blocks out of 4 inch squares before quartering them. I then added a four inch border. The final size of the quilt is 44” by 64” which fits the Ikea middle size of the extendable bed perfectly for when she is a little bigger. Most of the fabric is from the line  Santorini by Lila Tueller which I bought a couple years ago.

A girly clutch ball and quilt squares….

I made Lorelei a pretty clutch ball to kick around the house. She does love it!

On another note I have started cutting 4 inch quilt squares for Lorelei`s quilt. So far I have cut all the prints leaving just the plain beiges to cut. Here is a peek of the beautiful fabrics! Five of the prints are from Lila Tueller`s Santorini line.

Oh and for those who are wondering what pattern I am going to be using it is call the disappearing nine patch. I found a tutorial of it here. I am hoping that mine will look similar to this beautiful quilt that I found on Flickr. I found her quilt very inspiring. I also love how she used the white with the prints. I thinks it is less busy and frames the beautiful prints.
