Fabric Baskets

I recently joined a swap. My secret partner asked for a fabric basket I had never made one before so I made it my task to learn. At first I started little and made a small patchwork basket. I used Ayumi’s tutorial on her blog Pink Penguin. It was super quick and easy. My daughter fell in love with it right away, lol. It annoys me that I switched thread colors in the middle but oh well it will be used and loved anyways.

My second basket I used a tutorial on the sew4home website you can find it here. It was a little bit more finicky but I used some of the methods I learned from making the small one for sewing this one together.

 

Finally the most exciting part of this basket the basket weave braid star! It is paper pieced using this pattern here. I set my printer to print two of the templates on a page to shrink it down. I didn’t need a huge star. I loved making it and using my teeny tiny pieces of Simply Color.

If you haven't made a fabric basket you should. It is a great little sewing project! I can’t wait to gather up the rest of the stuff for my partner. I hope she will love the basket I send her!

Simply Color Baby Boy Quilt

This is another baby quilt that doesn’t have a home. One that will just sit patiently until someone wants it. I used up the last of my layer cake to make this sweet quilt. I was suppose to practice Free Motion Quilting but could not for the life of me figure it out on my machine. Luckily since I finished this quilt I have learned how to set up my machine and can now start practicing!

I think that the straight quilting suits it. In the solid the quilting is about an inch apart and in the prints the quilting is about 2 inches apart.

I used the Oh Fransson pattern.

I love this quilt and hope it finds it way to a good home one day! Or maybe I will keep it tucked away for the day we plan on trying to bring a boy into our family (I hope that my husband gets a son one day). Speaking of babies my youngest is turning two on Monday where does the time go? I just order her some posy charm packs to make her a big girl quilt. I will share my plans for her quilt later this week. Yet another quilt to add to the list!

Simply Color Pinwheel Doll Quilt

I can finally share this finish! I love how this little quilt turned out!

I made Miss L a baby doll quilt to match her Pow Wow blanket for Christmas. These pinwheels came from all the scraps that were cut off of the Pow Wow blocks! I had a few struggles with it but in the end it was worth it. The quilt is about a 22 inch square.

Since I had cut the Pow Wow blocks out of a layer cake I also had some three inch scraps. So I decided to use them as the backing although it was not quite enough but luckily I had a few other pieces of simply color hanging around.

Little Miss L decided she likes the back better than the front but that is alright with me. Here are a few pictures from Christmas morning. Miss E loves her butterfly doll quilt  as soon as she unwrapped it she needed to find her baby and put her baby to bed. So sweet!

All dressed up!

I have two projects to share with you that I finished up this week!

First off are a couple American girl dresses:

Look at that cute little bow in the back!

And the purple one has all that gathery goodness!

I don’t have a 18” doll in my house yet so I could not model them on anything but I am sure they will be awesome since I bought the patterns off of the Liberty Jane pattern site. You can find the pattern for the gathered dandelion dress here. You can find the pattern for the brown flower dress here. They were fun to make and Lorelei has requested some of her own. One day maybe!

Secondly I am sooo excited to show you what I did with some of my left over pieces of Simply Color. I made a few Anna Maria Horner feathers and put together a sewing machine cover for a friend for her birthday! If you haven’t seen this quilt top you must see it. Check out the pattern here.

If you are curious the ties were cut out at 10” by 1 1/4” then pressed in half and folded in. I placed them about 4” up from the bottom. Other than that I just made three feathers and squared them off and added a little extra fabric to make it long enough.

Simply Color Pow Wow Quilt

I was lucky and thrilled to win a layer cake of Simply Color by V & Co. from Fat Quarter Shop when I entered my hexie pouch during the friendship bracelet blog hop a few weeks ago that was hosted by Diane at from blank pages…  When it came I pretty much cut into it the next day especially since my almost four year old has been asking me for a blankie. That is right I made a baby quilt for my almost four year old. I really wanted to try the Pow Wow quilt by Cluck, Cluck, Sew. So here it is:

I made the baby size not the crib size since I only had 1 1/2 yards of solid hanging around but it is perfect for her to carry around and that is what she wanted.

And here is my happy princess! She loves to sleep with her cozy blankie and carries it down to the couch to watch morning shows just like her baby sister.

Did you notice that I found eggplant minky! You can’t really tell in these pictures but I quilted it with a sherbet like rainbow variegated thread. This is such an awesome fabric line to work with and I still have a couple more projects to come! Yay! So bright and colorful.
