Folk Modern

I love the line Folk Modern by Ellen Luckett Baker that came out a few months ago especially the gray and yellow combo but resisted buying some! But I finally had an excuse to buy some since a friend and I are swapping some handmade goodies. (I can’t knit and she can) She asked for a tote and gave me a few color combo options. I knew exactly what fabric to buy when she said gray and yellow!

I hadn’t actually made the 241 tote in the proper size only smaller for my girls (here and here) It is such a great sew! Awesome pattern too. I paired it with some Robert Kaufman Putty Linen and some Art Gallery fabric for the lining.

I also made a matching Pocket Clutch. You can find the pattern here at Michelle Patterns. I think that is makes the perfect chap stick and small hand cream pouch for in your purse.

Put them together and they are the perfect combination!

Super Tote

I decided to sew a little something for me this past week/weekend. I pulled out my Echino Cherry birds in Green to finally make my Super Tote! Another awesome pattern by Anna over at Noodlehead. This fabric has been sitting patiently waiting to be sewn.

I paired it with some Robert Kaufman Dyed Linen in Flax for the handles and gusset. Tarika in Moss from Dena Designs Taza line for the lining. A Dandelion Habitat print by Benartex for the inside pockets.

I added a layer of scrap batting in the handles to add some padding if it gets heavy. (I didn’t have fusible fleece.)

I decided to be brave and try sewing in a recessed zipper on the back panel. I used the instructions from a different tote pattern as a reference. It went together a lot smoother than I had expected. I think that this pocket will be super handy for my cell phone.

Another suggestion given to me by Stephanie was to put something on the bag to keep your keys from being buried. I decided to put a little d-ring on a loop. (I will just have to add a little clip to my key fob.)

Lastly you can see that I fully lined my outside pocket. I like the amount of structure it adds! Since I was fully lining it I decided to use Krista’s cheater piping method. Basically you cut your lining piece a 1/2 inch longer than the outside. You then cut your interfacing a 1/4 inch longer than the outside piece. Next you sew your lining and outside together at the top then fuse the interfacing on the outside piece matching at the bottom then fold over your lining matching the bottoms together and ta da! Make sense?!

Anyways I am in LOVE with this tote and am happy that I finally have a handmade bag! Next somehow my sister has convinced me to make one for her, lol. She just starting going to school for 3D animation and needs a big bag to tote about.

Flower 241 Tote

I know I said no new sewing projects until after we move but this poor little girl has been pestering me about making her a ladybug purse like her sister. On Monday we went to Ikea, while we were there I let her pick out some fabric. She picked this crazy large flower print but it was perfect for fussy cutting the smaller flowers for the front and back panels.

I decided to use some lighter weight denim for the side panels and strap. (You can’t really tell in the pictures but it is a little speckled.)  I sadly did not have the hardware to make her strap adjustable so I just made it longer to wear messenger style.

I have a very very happy two year old now. She will no longer has to be jealous of her sister, lol. Oh girls…

I used the Noodlehead 241 Tote pattern printed at 75% again. It is such a great pattern. I still need to get my interfacing and such to make her Super Tote pattern!

Zippy Wallet

Pouch number four of the week. Sorry if I am boring you… but I am getting my Pay It Forward projects done, only one more to go. Yay!

This is a little wallet/pouch is for your cards and of course I would put in some lip balm too. I asked my pay it forward person for ideas of things she wanted. (I know it was suppose to be a surprise but oh well. If you are reading this I hope you like it). She is my aunt and she lives on the other side of the country. I am in BC and she is in Newfoundland  I really didn’t want to send something that she didn’t want or need. I am still going to make her a drawstring bag for her knitting too because I love her and she has had a little too much stuff going on in her life right now.

I used this tutorial from Noodlehead by Anna. It is a great little tutorial like all of her other tutorials and patterns. (I still really need to make a super tote for a park/beach bag) I only had a black sew in snap to attach and I figured magnetics near cards wasn’t a great idea. I think that the size of the snap is great a smaller one would have been to little if you know what I mean!

It is kind of funny because the zipper in this pouch is one that my aunt bought locally at a liquidation center a few years ago and left at my moms when she moved. It is now going to make its way back to her!

(Sorry I am not too sure of the fabric of this pouch. My dear sewing buddy who lives in Australia left it here when she moved back to the Oz. I miss her! Speaking of which she finally received her package that I sent so I can finally share it with you guys! Although you will have to wait until next week sometime)

PS stop back on Monday to see what type of pouch I have made for one of my followers! That is right my first giveaway is happening!!!!

Heather Ross Rainbow Pouch

If you follow my blog you might be getting sick of seeing pouches but I have another to share with you. This is a pouch that I made for my swap partner for the Pretty Little Pouch Swap on Flickr. I had never done anything rainbow before or with Heather Ross but I had a little bicycle sent to me in a package and thought it would make my partners day. I sure hope it does. I had a lot of fun making this!

I first cut out a hexagon and then basket weaved the rainbow on either side. I decided to put the bicycle in where the orange is since its coloration worked best there.

I used red for the lining and a darker orange zipper. This pouch will not make you grumpy that is for sure!

I also decided to work on my hand quilting skills. I quilted on the inside of the hexagon with yellow and on either side if the inside of the border text print with a cream thread.

I used the Noodlehead open mouth pouch tutorial size small. Except the gussets are a little smaller on the inside because I didn’t want the panel too close to the bottom.
