The bed is quite cute, but you may want to modify it for a bit more functionality by putting either a trundle or some drawers under it. I love the idea of a handmade bed, that is so special. My dad made my sisters' and my bunkbeds. They had desks and book shelves fashioned into either side, circle shaped stairs, and then drawers under the lower bunk. Loved those beds.
